ABOUT

The Gaze at the Water's Edge

Inspired by a lotus flower’s petals opening toward water and light, Casa Lotus unfolded slowly and intentionally over seven years — shaped by time, discipline, and belief. The estate stands as a singular residential work realized through the collaboration of a visionary client, architect, and master builder. Set on 3.36 acres along the tranquil shores of Lake Austin, the residence was conceived by Miró Rivera Architects, recipients of the Texas Medal of the Arts, and executed with uncompromising precision and dedication to health-conscious materials by builder Divit Tripathi.

Constructed in Roman brick, sourced from one of the few American manufacturers still producing the format favored by Frank Lloyd Wright, the residence is grounded in permanence and proportion. At the heart of the main residence, a circular oculus crowns the central atrium, organizing the home vertically and visually. Living spaces radiate from this light-filled core, where brick, terrazzo, and walnut rise in layered procession. The stair curves gently along the atrium’s edge, reinforcing a sense of continuity between levels. Throughout the day, light filters downward, animating surfaces and deepening shadow.

The lakeside pavilion extends the discipline of the main residence into open air. Protected yet open to breeze and water, the pavilion invites long tables, unhurried evenings, and a seamless exchange between landscape and life. Created by French artist JR, the pavilion’s Eyes transform architecture into human presence. Known for monumental works that explore identity, visibility, and shared humanity, JR isolates the gaze as a universal language, an invitation to see and be seen. Casa Lotus holds the distinction of being JR’s only private residential commission. The image is embedded within the structure itself, filtered through vertical fins and shifting light. As the day moves, the expression softens, fragments, and reforms.

A fully appointed outdoor kitchen and bar open to the dining terrace, allowing meals and conversation to unfold beneath filtered light. Slender screens temper sun and breeze, creating privacy without enclosure. Just steps away, the detached guest house offers two bedrooms, private living spaces, a full kitchen, and elevator access, ensuring visitors experience the estate with independence and ease. Here, hospitality is architectural, open, effortless, and thoughtfully composed.
